Lead Like a Nurse: Self-Care is the New Health Care

In this evidence-based and experiential session, Dr. Carol Biggs explores how self-care is not only a personal necessity but a professional leadership competency. Participants will examine the intersection between nurse well-being, patient safety, and organizational health outcomes, using real-world data that links burnout prevention to improved retention and engagement. Through reflective exercises and leadership scenarios, nurses will learn practical strategies to integrate self-awareness, boundary-setting, and restorative routines into daily practice. By the end of the session, participants will be able to articulate how modeling self-care behaviors strengthens team culture, promotes psychological safety, and redefines leadership as an act of holistic stewardship—where caring for oneself becomes the foundation for caring for others.

Human Flourishing as the Future of Healthcare: A Nurse-Led Model for Change

Dr. Kimberly Delbo introduces the concept of human flourishing—a state of physical, emotional, and moral vitality—as an emerging framework for transforming healthcare systems. This session invites nurses to reclaim their role as changemakers in shaping humane, equitable, and innovative care models. Participants will explore how principles of positive psychology, moral resilience, and cultural humility can be translated into nurse-led initiatives that elevate both patient and caregiver well-being. Drawing on current research and case studies, Dr. Delbo will demonstrate how nurse leadership can drive policy, education, and practice toward environments that foster belonging, creativity, and compassion.
